Before travelling on a Merseyrail train you must have a valid ticket before you start your journey.

Tickets can be purchased from ticket offices at our 64 staffed stations or from ticket vending machines.

It is also now possible to collect train tickets purchased through other online retailers at any staffed Merseyrail station. If you selected 'Ticket on Departure' as the delivery method when purchasing train tickets online, visit a Merseyrail station ticket office before boarding a train and staff can print out your tickets.

To collect your tickets at a staffed station you must provide your booking reference and a credit or debit card, this does not have to be the card that you purchased the ticket with originally. Both of these things are required for ticket office staff to be able to print off your tickets.

A full list of locations where you can collect your tickets is available from the retailer you bought them from, and you should contact them directly if you have any questions or comments. The only stations on the Merseyrail network where tickets can be collected from ticket vending machines are Chester and Liverpool South Parkway. Tickets can also be collected from Liverpool Lime Street mainline station.

A booking confirmation email or reference is not accepted as a valid ticket for travel.  You must be in possession of a valid ticket or pass before you board a Merseyrail service, if you don’t you are liable to receive a penalty fare.

Tickets for train journeys across the UK can also be bought from Merseyrail stations.

Even if your journey doesn’t start or end on the Merseyrail network, our staff are happy to help you find the best value ticket for your journey, whether it’s a weekend away to Edinburgh or a business trip to London. By purchasing your long-distance tickets from our stations you will avoid queues at mainline stations or having to wait for the post to deliver your tickets, Plus, there's definitely no booking or delivery fees when you buy from Merseyrail.
